What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

The IRS issues refunds,, so we can't say for sure why you haven’t received your refund if it's been longer than 21 days since your return has been e-filed. Once the IRS has accepted the return, we cannot provide updates on where your refund is at. Check the IRS Where's My Refund? website to find out the status of your federal return. In some cases, the IRS website indicates that the return can't be found. In that case,we can provide you with your unique Modern E-filing Number (MEF) to make sure your e-filed return has been filed and processed by the IRS.

You should consider contacting the IRS if it’s been:
21 days or more since you e-filed
6 weeks or more since you mailed your return
Or if the IRS Where's My Refund page tells you to contact them
